I’ve only seen myself
in passing—
in the flat wall of a knife
at breakfast,
the streaked glass
of a hospital door.
It’s enough to know
the outline:
sharp as thistle spine,
all hinge and dry stalk.
You could string a fence
between my ribs
with all the winters
I’ve lived.
